Insomnia is where a person finds that they are unable to start a normal sleep cycle or if they do manage to gain sleep they cannot maintain their sleep cycle throughout the night. The effect of insomnia can be described as where a person goes through a period of non-restorative sleep which then affects their normal daytime functions.

Insomnia causes an inability to sleep through the night. Suffers find they are waking constantly, which then results in little or no sleep or where a person will wake up far too early and will then be faced with the inability to go back to sleep. If this cycle if not treated it can lead to a person suffering from a case of severe insomnia.

How Do You Know If You Have Insomnia?

Many people go about their lives not knowing that they are suffering from insomnia. These people often find throughout the day that they feel constantly sleepy. They may go through regular periods of being unable to get to sleep or stay asleep. As a result they may receive comments from people that they are looking worn out and tired.

A typical sign is where a person experiences changes in their mood for no apparent reason. They become irritable and very emotional. They typically have a short concentration period and are not able to remain attentive for long.

Another sign is they tend to forget important matters. These signs all point to a person who is constantly faced with sleep deprivation which can then lead to insomnia or other sleep disorders.

What Can You Do About Insomnia If You have It?

One excellent natural insomnia treatment is to introduce a daily exercise program. Studies to date have shown that when an exercise program is used it has a direct impact on how a person feels afterwards.

A good physical work out during the day is one of the key components to being able to get good nights sleep. By stimulating your body through exercise you are less likely to be full of energy when it’s time to sleep.

If for some reason you just cannot find the time to exercise try making small changes like taking the stairs at work rather than the lift or parking the car a little further away from where you are going and walking the extra distance.
